Missing Plugins in Older Projects

When loading an older project, you might see a warning that some plugins couldn’t be found.

The most likely reasons:

  • The plugin isn’t installed in a location your host is scanning.
  • The project uses a plugin format that is no longer installed on your system.

About VST2 compatibility

As Steinberg has officially deprecated the VST2 format, it is no longer included in our releases. However, VST2 plugins in existing projects can be automatically replaced with their VST3 equivalents – provided that both the plugin and the host support this functionality. We implemented the Steinberg-recommended IPluginCompatibility method for seamless VST2 to VST3 migration. Many major hosts – including Reaper, Cubase, Nuendo, Komplete Kontrol, and Studio One – support this method in their current versions.

If the warning persists after migration

Either it does not yet support IPluginCompatibility, or you are using an outdated version of that host. We recommend contacting the host manufacturer about their support for IPluginCompatibility.

Need the VST2 Version?

If you really need a VST2 version of a plugin, for whatever reason, you can find them in our release archive.
