ACE, Bazille, Filterscape, More Feedback Machine 2
Our geekiest synths and effects, especially for the brave and the curious in search of unusual sonic powers: ACE, Bazille, Filterscape, More Feedback Machine 2.
The name “Ursome” harks back to a time when Urs was essentially a solo developer. There’s plenty of unsupervised madness to be found here, although some of the rougher edges have since been smoothed out to accommodate a more modern workflow.
ACE and Bazille are aimed at those with a passion for modular synthesis. ACE, short for Any Cable Everywhere, is the older sibling: a semi-modular analogue synthesizer designed to strike the perfect balance between “easy to use but rather limited” and “unlimited sonic power but incomprehensible to mere mortals”. You could say it succeeds rather well.
Bazille is a different beast altogether. Something that could only exist in software. Imagine a traditional cable-based modular synthesizer, complete with LFOs, analogue-style filters and all the usual suspects – but with oscillators based on phase distortion and classic (digital) FM! Yes, there’s a reason its slogan became “Monster from the Deep”: Bazille is capable of wildly experimental, larger-than-life sounds, but can also be surprisingly gentle.
Filterscape and MFM2 have both recently received major makeovers, bringing them up to current u-he standards…
Filterscape is a collection of three plug-ins built around a common feature: a bank of EQ filters that can morph between snapshots or be animated by LFOs and envelope followers, synchronised to song tempo or reacting dynamically to the input signal.
MFM2, short for More Feedback Machine 2, could be touted as all the digital delays you’ll ever need. It can handle conventional delay duties with precise control over each and every aspect, or go completely bananas creating vast reflective soundscapes and dream worlds. If you’re into Frippertronics, you’re in for a treat!
